Remembering St. Athanasius Church

Images below of St. Athanasius Church & School. Located in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia (Walnut Lane & Limekiln Pike). If you have photos you would like to add to this collection, please E-Mail me. Remember the old convent that stood on the Limekiln Pike side of the school yard, midway between the church and the school... as I remember, it was a large old house.

Photo to the right, shows St. A's Church & rectory as view from Walnut Lane Ave. near Cedar Park Ave.(dated 2003).

Inside At. A's - copyright J.W. Jones

The photo above was taken before the rectory and upper church were built. (viewed from Cedar Park Ave) Photo by: Robert Jones Sr.

The black & white image to the right was taken many years ago (I have no date on this photo). Please notice the school yard is NOT paved, instead it has grass with lines of pavement connecting the doors to the street. Also note the OLD wooden windows not the aluminum replacements we encountered in the late 1960's.

Photo to the left, shows the inside St. A's Church. I took this photo in 2003. The church looks like I remember it during the 1960's. I heard that Monsignor Herbert Brevard brought the upper church back from ruins.
